About Us
Hello Everyone,
First of all, I would like to thank you for visiting my website. I started this website on Dec 2009 with the help of my brother Shekhar. I get numerous messages from people asking about myself. Thus, I have written short information about myself and about website.
Who am I?
My name is Pratima Paudel. I moved to Los Angeles, California few years back with my family from Nepal. I am a computer science student at Cal State Fullerton. I work as a Microsoft SQL Database Administrator. I am ambitious, hardworking, confident, and humorous girl with short temper
.
How I started this website?
During the first 6 months in the United States, my interaction was limited within the Nepali and Indian communities—thus I never had difficulties introducing myself as a Nepali. However, after I started working in a corporation with a diverse group of people, I realized that many “educated” people are unaware of Nepal, my pride. Most of the Nepali people in the USA are being classified as “some kind” of Indian people. Though we have rich and diverse cultures, numerous different languages and are blessed with natural richness, because of ignorance, people were unaware about my country. My beautiful golden brown skin and funny but sweet accent (according to people
) soon lost its identity. Usually people used to bring conversations about Chicken Tikka Masala, Samosa, Balle-Balle dance, thinking that we are some sort of Indian. My love for the motherland urged me to take actions against such ignorance.
Every time I was classified as an Indian, I used to get upset but it was not helping the cause. As education is the best remedy for ignorance, I decided to create a website which will have detail information about the beautiful country Nepal—this way people would realize what they are missing in their life by not visiting Nepal. As a result, I bought a domain name “NepalIsGreat.com” and have been uploading materials to publicize Nepal. Since I have created this website, it has been so much enjoyable to tell people where I am from. The moment they ask me where Nepal is, I tell them it’s a land of Gautama Buddha and the highest mountain of the world, Mount Everest and recommend them to visit this website. People who were ignorant enough not to acknowledge the sovereignty of Nepal started telling me that Nepal is in the list of places that they want to visit before they die. Numerous responses from my friends, such as “Oh wow, I did not know your country (Nepal) is so beautiful”, encouraged to keep this website alive and strong. Now, it has been so much easier for me to let people know about my beautiful country.
So what is the purpose of this website?
The main purpose of this website is to expose the hidden beauty of Nepal, to provide valuable information about Nepal to Non-Nepali people in order to promote our tourism industry, and mainly to make people realize that “Nepal is Great”.
How can you help me?
If you think that your place from Nepal is beautiful then send us some pictures along with a short info, I will publish them. If you have anything which makes you feel proud about Nepal, email it to me, I will post them in the website. Also, you can always help us by providing more pictures and by suggesting new places from Nepal.
Something Interesting I want to share and make it clear to everyone:
Though I am proud to be a Nepali, I have been living in the United States. As a consequence, I get numerous strange, interesting messages and suggestions from people. Many Nepali people blame me of doing drama as if I love Nepal and raise concern on why don’t I go back to Nepal and live there. Some people have even express distrust on my ability to read and write in Nepali.
YES, I do know how to read and write Nepali and love Nepal as much as/or more than them. Motherland and our mother fall under the equal footing. Mother gave birth to me and my country gave identity. Just because a grown up child moves away from his/her home to study, work, it does not mean that he has forgotten his mother—in fact love, affection and appreciation for his/her mother grows. It is a similar case with the motherland. Since, I moved to the United States, I have realized the value and importance of my country. In this digital age, we can inform a large number of people about Nepal through internet. If you believe that Nepal is great, as I do, why not you join me and spread the words that “Nepal is Great!”
Last, I would like to mention that I am not the only person who worked hard to create this website.
My brother Shekhar spent almost 3 months of his time working on it. I would like to thank him for all the hard work. PS.When we started this website, Shekhar was a middle school kid but still he was able to support me with the technical stuffs.
